UPDATED SEPTEMBER 2019
As a mom living on the rainy west coast I’m well accustomed to getting the kids geared up in their Muddy Buddies and heading outside during our rainy season aka – October – April. However, some days pushing a soggy stroller and dealing with muddy buddies, and wet boots simply doesn’t appeal and I have to find an indoor activity to entertain the kids and keep my sanity.
Please find a list below of our favourite kid-friendly indoor activities across South Surrey & White Rock.
If there’s something we’re missing please that should be added to the list please send us an email to email@example.com.
Offering 5 & 10 pin bowling Sandcastle Lanes is a great rainy day indoor family activity. 5 pin bowling is perfect for kids under 5 as the balls are smaller, bumpers are in the gutters and there’s a stand which allows the little’s to aim and bowl right down the middle.
Plus, the bowling alley has a full kitchen with kid favourites like chicken strips and fries and for parents looking for something more refreshing there’s a great line up of craft beer.

SOUTH SURREY WHITE ROCK RESTAURANTS WITH KIDS PLAY AREAS

- Uptown McDonalds (152 & 17)

When you just need a moments peace and to eat food that’s not grilled cheese crusts finding a restaurant with a kids play area can feel like heaven! There aren’t a ton of options for restaurants with play areas (hint, hint for any entrepreneurs out there) but we do have a few!
The Wooden Spoon located in uptown White Rock is one of my favourite restaurants in all of White Rock and not just because they have a dedicated kids play area but their food is amazing especially if you love brunch because that is their specialty! The kid’s area is tucked near the back of the restaurant full of toys and Apple TV which helps keep kids of all ages entertained.
Sal Y Limon recently brought their award-winning authentic Mexican food to South Surrey at Grandview Corners and added a small kids play kitchen which was brilliant! It’s one of the only fast-casual restaurants around with this feature.
The uptown McDonald’s is the only one in town with a play place. Full disclosure it’s kind of gross and on the smaller side but I can assure you I have spent many a night dining there and the kids have a great time and I’m so thankful for a minutes piece along with my McFlurry 🙂 The Play Place is all on one level making it easy for crawlers to explore.
WHITE ROCK MUSEUM TRAIN SPOTTING & MORE
The best place to watch the trains go past is at the White Rock Museum with its proximity to the tracks, the fact its nice and warm inside plus there’s a small kids play area for kids to unleash their imaginations. Featuring an interactive train, play tent and magnetic sea creature wall you can also learn a bit about White Rock’s history while you’re there.
The best way to guarantee a train sighting is to head down when the Amtrak Cascades passenger train goes by which happens 4 times a day but trains regularly frequent the waterfront so if you spend any amount of time at the beach you are more than likely to spot a train,
The approximate times for the Amtrak Cascades to pass by White Rock beach are:
- Morning: Between 730-8 am & 1015-1045am
- Evening: Between 630 – 7pm & 815 – 845pm
The White Rock Museum details include:
- WHEN: Tuesday – Friday: 10:30 am – 4:30pm
- COST: By Donation
- WHERE: 14970 Marine Dr.
The newest pool in Surrey the Grandview Aquatic Centre was designed with families in mind. There’s a shallow area perfect for the little ones to sit in safely and splash around. There’s also a lazy river and lots of pool space for parents and kids to use depending on their skill level.

- Sat & Sun: 6am-9pm
- Holidays: 8am-8pm
- COST: $3.75 per person
- WHERE: 14601 – 20 Avenue Surrey Phone: 604-592-6970
The castle at Semiahmoo Mall is one of the only indoor playgrounds in South Surrey/ White Rock, it’s really small and can get busy but there is a slide along with a few other play items for kids to climb on. There’s also a Murchie’s and a Blenz in the mall for your coffee/tea fix and the Castle is positioned right next to the food court making it a great spot to grab lunch.
