Every year the festival highlights all arts and culture events that take place in White Rock from September to November from live music, performances, art exhibitions, multi-cultural celebrations, and more!

Landmark Pop-Uptown Art Studio Exhibition

Where: Landmark Pop-Uptown 15140 North Bluff Road (Central Plaza).

When:

  • Sept 6 – 28; Tues – Sat 11 am – 4 pm – Crossroads Gallery Art Exhibition
  • Oct 4 – 29; Thurs – Sun various times – Lower Mainland Sculpture Fair

Cost: Free

The Landmark Pop-Uptown Art Studio is located in Central Plaza. Through a partnership between the City of White Rock and Landmark properties, the gallery is available for local artists to use as a pop-up art studio. For White Rock’s Fall Festival of the Arts 2018, two exhibitions will be taking over the gallery.

Sept 6 – 28th the Crossroads Gallery Art Exhibition featuring artistic demonstrations by 4 local artists known as the 4×4 artist collective will be on display. The artists are on-site Tuesday – Saturday 11 am – 4 pm.:

  • Tuesday: Don Hutchinson, ceramic artist
  • Wednesday: Elizabeth Carefoot, fibre artist
  • Thursday & Saturday: Scarlet Black, watercolor portraits
  • Friday Tom Douglas, abstract expressionist painter

From October 4 – 29th the space will be converted into the Lower Mainland sculpture fair. Oliver Harwood and Jocelyne Dodier, sculptors and educators from Vancouver will be joined by Bruce Kleeberger of Surrey for the month of October in the Landmark Pop-Uptown Gallery. There, they will show and sell their fine art as well as demonstrate and teach some techniques of creating beautiful stone sculptures.

Currently, the gallery has available space for artists in January, February and March 2019. Applications for the Landmark Pop-Uptown Gallery can be found here.

Peninsula Arts & Culture Alliance Culture Days 

Where: White Rock Community Center

When: Sept 30; 11 am – 2pm

Culture Days is a nationwide event which celebrates arts and culture throughout communities across Canada! The Peninsula Arts & Culture Alliance will be celebrating Culture Days at the White Rock Community Center featuring a host of arts and culture information booths, live painting, dance and musical performances from local groups including:

White Rock Player’s Club presents Harvey 

Where: White Rock Players’ Club Coast Capital Playhouse

When: Oct 10 – 27, various times

Cost: $19 – $22

Season 74 at the White Rock Player’s Club opens with Harvey by Mary Chase. This classic tale from 1974 has never been performed before at the White Rock Player’s Club. The premise: Elwood P. Dowd and his pal Harvey are creating quite a stir at his sister Veta’s weekly tea party as he introduces them to his friend Harvey, a six and a half foot tall Pooka.  Veta and her daughter Myrtle Mae decide that Elwood needs to spend some time in a sanitarium, but that is easier said than done.  Harvey is not all that he appears.

The Surrey Youth Theatre Company presents Any Body For Tea

Where: Kent Street Activity Center

When: Oct 14, 3 pm

Cost: $5

For 20 years the Surrey Youth Theatre company has been providing youth aged 9-17 a chance to perform live theatre in a professional setting. They regularly perform throughout the community with entertaining shows designed for all ages!

As part of the Fall Festival of the Arts, Any Body for Tea features the “Bull” Detective Dennis O’Finn, a handsome, middle-aged bachelor. The “china shop” is a houseful of batty spinsters, all of them in love with O’Finn. But he pays no attention to them until one of them turns up dead!

The Peninsula Arts Foundation is providing a complimentary full Tea for your enjoyment and to enhance the atmosphere the Tea is served by the actors, SYTCO’s very own “batty spinsters”.  Watch out for what may be in your tea!

2019 Semiahmoo Arts Fine Art Calendar Launch

Where: Turnbull Art Gallery South Surrey Arts & Rec Center

When: Sept 22, 1 pm – 4 pm

Cost: Free

Every year Semiahmoo artists get together to produce a fine art calendar with all sales going to support Semiahmoo Arts programs. The 2019 calendar will be revealed on September 22nd at the Turnbull art Gallery. Here’s a great opportunity to meet the artists, sponsors, and volunteers who worked tirelessly to bring the calendar to life!

To purchase the calendar simply visit the Semiahmoo Arts office in the South Surrey Rec Center for a minimum $10 donation.

XBa School of Dance Open House!

Where: XBa school of dance, 1990 152 St #6, Surrey

One of White Rock’s top dance schools, XBa, is hosting a series of free dance classes during the Fall Festival of the Arts! To register simply contact info@xba.ca! Nuvo Music School – Everbean Coffee Shop series

Where:  Everbean Cafe

When: Last Saturday of every month, 3 – 5pm

Cost: Free

Debuting during White Rock’s Fall Festival of the Arts is the Nuvo Music School‘s coffee shop series taking place the last Saturday of every month at EVerbean cafe from 3-5 pm. Students from the school will be showcasing their talents while you sip on a cup of java or any one of Everbean’s delicious drinks.

The Drama Class

The Drama class offers recreational and professional performing arts programs for ages 5 to adult!

During White Rock’s Fall Festival of the Arts, they’re running a number of great programs and workshops including How to Lose your Canadian accent with internationally known dialect coach Tony Alcantar. Partcipants will learn Standard American from one of the best in the business who has worked with actors like Halle Berry and Vince Vaughn.

Adults can also register for the comedy & stand up workshop with Jacques Lalonde on Oct 14th from 10 am – 4 pm. Youths aged 9-16 can participate in the commercial auditioning & branding youth workshop Oct 21 11 am – 3 pm.

Each program requires pre-registration but if you just want to test the waters you should check out their $20 drop-in improv classes Friday, Sept 14, & 28,  Oct 12 & 26th and Nov 9 & 23rd!

White Rock’s premier concert venue, Blue Frog studios consistently offers a fantastic line up of artists performing in front of an intimate crowd at their studio tucked in the heart of White Rock. Many of their shows sell out so make sure to sign up for their enewsletter so you’re the first to know which big acts are heading to our neck of the woods.

During the Fall Festival of the Arts performers such as Jeff Martin (frontman of The Tea Party), Jack Semple, Jimmy Rankin and the Motown Show will be heading to the stage so make sure to buy your tickets before they sell out!
