UPDATED SEPT 5 2018
As a mom living on the rainy west coast I’m well accustomed to getting the kids geared up in their Muddy Buddies and heading outside during our rainy season aka – October – April. However, some days pushing a soggy stroller and dealing with muddy boots simply doesn’t appeal and I have to find some kid-friendly indoor activities.
Having recently returned to South Surrey White Rock I needed some inspiration to get out of the house with my 1&3 year old so I asked the awesome community of South Surrey White Rock moms in the South Rock Moms Facebook group for their suggestions and here they are!
Plus, here’s a printable calendar for Fall 2018 showing the drop-in times and locations across South Rock from the Early Year’s Center in South Surrey and White Rock!

Offering 5 & 10 pin bowling Sandcastle Lanes is a great family activity. Plus, the bowling alley serves a great line up of craft beer and wine along with a full kitchen!
Bonus, every other Saturday from 3 – 6:30 pm is family friendly Strike FX Cosmic bowling! Music is turned up, lights are turned low and black lights are turned on to make everything from clothes to the balls glow! The music is all family friendly.

My 3 year old recently attended a birthday party at White Rock Gymnastics and it was clearly one of the best days of his life (as evidenced in the picture). Their weekly drop-in is a great way to let your little use gymnastics equipment including trampolines, tumbling mats, a foam pit and more without committing to a gymnastics program. Parent supervision is required but staff are on hand to watch and interact this is a great open non-structured open gym time!

Each day of the week there’s a different activity whether it’s access to the gym or field/courtyard or music with Nelson who brings his guitar and entertains the kids with sing-along and story time.
Family Place also offers Baby Place a drop-in program for babies 0-18 months Tues – Thurs from 12-2 and Mini-Mother Goose.

The library is such a great place to introduce a love of reading and to stock up on some books to take home to read and return at your next storytime!
South Surrey White Rock Restaurants with Kids Play Areas
- The Wooden Spoon
- Open Daily 9 am – 3 pm
- Sal y Limon
- Daily 11:30 am – 9 pm
- Uptown McDonalds (152 & 17)
- Open 24 hrs
When you just need a moments peace and to eat food that’s not grilled cheese crusts finding a restaurant with a kids play area can feel like heaven! There aren’t a ton of options for restaurants with play areas (hint, hint for any entrepreneurs out there) but we do have a few!
The Wooden Spoon located in uptown White Rock is one of my favourite restaurants in all of White Rock and not just because they have a dedicated kids play area but their food is amazing especially if you love brunch because that is their specialty! The kid’s area is tucked near the back of the restaurant full of toys and Apple TV which helps keep kids of all ages entertained.
Sal Y Limon recently brought their award-winning authentic Mexican food to South Surrey at Grandview Corners and added a small kids play kitchen which was brilliant! It’s one of the only fast-casual restaurants around with this feature.
The uptown McDonald’s is the only one in town with a play place. Full disclosure it’s kind of gross and on the smaller side but I can assure you I have spent many a night dining there and the kids have a great time and I’m so thankful for a minutes piece along with my McFlurry 🙂 The Play Place is all on one level making it easy for crawlers to explore.

Living in White Rock with a 3 year old obsessed with trains I’ve learned the best chance to guarantee a train sighting is to watch for the Amtrak Cascades which runs past White Rock Beach 4 times a day. Below are the approximate times you can catch the Amtrak pass by White Rock Beach:
- Morning: Between 730-8am / 1015-1045am
- Evening: Between 630 – 7pm / 815 – 845pm
Whitby’s is a great spot for trainspotting as it has a perfect view of the train passing by. It’s also a very spacious cafe with room for kids to roam a little bit and they serve baked goods and of course coffee.

The newest pool in Surrey the Grandview Aquatic Centre was designed with families in mind. There’s a shallow area perfect for the little ones to sit in safely and splash around. There’s also a lazy river and lots of pool space for parents and kids to use depending on their skill level.

The castle at Semiahmoo Mall is one of the only indoor playgrounds in South Surrey/ White Rock, it’s really small and can get busy but there is a slide along with a few other play items for kids to climb on. There’s also a Murchie’s and a Blenz in the mall for your coffee/tea fix and the Castle is positioned right next to the food court making it a great spot to grab lunch.
