As a mom living on the rainy west coast I’m well accustomed to getting the kids geared up in their Muddy Buddies and heading outside during our rainy season aka – October – April. However, some days pushing a soggy stroller and dealing with muddy boots simply doesn’t appeal and I have to find some kid-friendly indoor activities.
Having recently returned to South Surrey White Rock I needed some inspiration to get out of the house with my 1&3 year old so I asked the awesome community of South Surrey White Rock moms in the South Rock Moms Facebook group for their suggestions and here they are!
White Rock has a fantastic line up of events and festivals but there is one do not miss event of the summer and that is the White Rock Sea Festival which takes place annually on the August long weekend!
The White Rock Sea Festival is one of Canada’s longest-running festivals with events spanning the entire length of White Rock beach from west beach to east beach. The Festival also coincides with Semiahmoo Days, the Semiahmoo First Nation’s annual festival taking place in Semiahmoo Park.
To make getting to the Sea Festival as easy as possible there are a number of free transportation options including:
Free trolley will be running from Centennial Arena to west beach every 30 minutes. Parking at Centennial is $2 for the entire day and the trolley is accessible for everyone including strollers and is FREE to ride!
With Christmas falling on a Monday it feels as if the kids are going to be out of school FOREVER! With 2.5 weeks to fill up with kids activities the City of White Rock is running their Holiday Break Skates out of Centennial Arena!
The South Surrey Smiles Summer Drive-In movie theatre returns to White Rock for 3 Monday nights in August! Load up the car with family & friends and drive down to the Semiahmoo Park parking lot behind the WAG on east beach to watch 3 Hollywood Blockbuster movies on Fresh Air Cinema’s 4 storey inflatable screen!
An annual tradition for families on the August long weekend is the FREE Pirates in the Park children’s celebration headlined by Capt’n Korki the clown and her team of pirates! This year the festival is the family zone to the Semiahmoo First Nation’s first ever Semiahmoo Days Festival! While both of these events are not technically part of the White Rock Sea Festival they are happening concurrently creating a great experience for families to take in a full weekend of fun on White Rock beach!
A big thanks to the Semiahmoo First Nation for sponsoring Pirates in the Park Festival this year and hosting activities throughout Semiahmoo Park over by east beach all weekend! See the complete line up of events for August 4th – 6th the BC Day long weekend!
